I have been using the Insteon smart devices for over 10 years when they were the only show in town. But their persistent high cost coupled with 'meh' reliability had me looking for something better. And did I find it with these Treatlife products. I bought a pack of 4 smart plugs for exactly the same cost as a single Insteon plug. Same with a pack of 4 wall dimmer switches, 4 for 1. While a couple of reviews lamented how bad the app UI is, I found the complete opposite to be true. I plugged in my first module, it told me a new device was there and asked if I wanted to configure it. I pressed yes and less than a minute later it was done. I edited the name and was off and running. After attaching the skill in the Alexa app, I added the new plug and Alexa worked perfectly first try. Not sure how anyone could find anything to criticize these. I have said goodbye to the overpriced Insteon stuff forever.

Having stayed with the same brand has helped me streamline the "smart home" installs since I've gotten comfortable with it and I know my Echos (Alexa) work with it well.These I bought for me and my older father, I used two in my bedroom for fans I use when I sleep and set up a "routine" in my Alexa app to turn them on and the lights out when I say "good night". (I have the smart bulbs so they don't need smart plugs for the lamps since the bulbs do their own thing....) I'm going to set something up similar for my dad and maybe get him some more plugs since those are simpler to operate and understand than smart bulbs.Anyways, I have better luck in the app installing in "manual setup" and then searching for the device. They install quick and are definitely easy to operate. My Alexa account automatically adds them and routines were easy to set up (See video). I only chose 4 stars for "thickness" in this review since if you're planning to use them behind furniture, the thickness of the unit plus the stick-out of the plug itself means you'll need to stand your furniture off the wall a few inches, but really, you have to expect some thickness....not a deal breaker anyways.Thanks TreatLife!
I have two great uses for this product. The first is to power my electric fireplace. I paired a plug and then put it under the fireplace, where the control unit connects to 120v power. Then I turn on the switch that typically turns the fireplace on to start the flames. Because the plug is paired to Alexa, I can. now just tell Alexa to, "Turn on the Fireplace" and it works.The second place was on one of the lamps in my bedroom. I get up typically around 6:20. And at this time of the year, it is dark out where I am. So the plug automatically turns on at 6:20 AM. This paired with my soft-awake alarm always does the trick.Setting up the plugs was incredibly easy. And because I have already paired the app for other devices, Alexa knew about it as soon as the functions were working.
$100 worth of smart plugs for the price of $25. Seriously, i've bought single plugs for $24.99, this 4 pack cost the same.Works perfectly with Alexa, once setup is completed.I used one to my outside christmas decorations (couldn't fit it in my outdoor plug box, so got creative and used a special power extension). Turns my lights out at 11 PM. no more forgetting to shut them off or going out in the cold to do so.However, i will say this, the process to enable the smart switch is more complicated than s plug because of an extra first step to add the device via the Smart Life app, then you add the device to Alexa.But saving $75, it's well worth it.I marked it 4 star - easy to use, to denote the additional set up. Once the plug is added, it is 5 star easy to use, just like plug (actually at that point there is no difference).
As an entry level smart home device, this can't be beat!! Plug your floor lamp into it, you can turn it on-and-off from anywhere. Plug your old coffee maker into it, and it's suddenly a smart coffee maker! Hook your crockpot to it, and you can turn it off while running errands!Put a box-fan in your window, and you can have it automatically turn on the fan when the outside temperature reaches a low level, turn it back off when the outside temperature reaches a high level.You can also set an automatic timer, after you turn it on, it'll automatically turn off after any amount of time. Or, have it turn on and off at the same time of day.It has a side-button to manually turn on-and-off the device. You can disabled the side button to prevent small fingers from fiddling with it.Lastly, if you have smart switches, you can add rules to turn this on and off with the switch. It's like adding something to the circuit without having to rewire the house!(PS: Don't plug your modem/router into it, especially if you can't reach the plug!)
