Smart Lock/Deadbolt with Touchscreen - Satin Nickel

We love this lock. Just got it over the weekend and installed it. The App was straight forward. Too many codes but it was ok because it was securing my front door and don't anyone accessing it.Pros:- Easy to install hardware. I replaced an existing Kwikset electronic lock.- installing the App was a breeze. I had to create an account with several codes for phone and email- adding the lock to the App was easy and the steps were clear. I read the instructions, though :-)- the app seems simple and had what I need for giving codes to different people- will keep an eye on the battery but seems good for meCons:- does not work with my SmartThings which I have at home. I wish there is away to connect them. I am sure they will add that in the future.- it does not support IFTTT which I use with my SmartThings in several ways for sensors and lights. Kwikset if you are reading this, please add these two features. Will keep an eye on future updates.Overall, good experience so far. Will see how it goes over time.

So initially I was a little torn about purchasing this lock solely because some of the negative reviews. However after watching a YouTube video with a professional locksmith review this lock and two other smart locks and him saying that you couldn’t go wrong with any of them I bit the bullet. I picked the Kwikset because of its ability for you to rekey their locks by yourself. I have always had Kwikset since I built my house and loved that the few locks I have replaced over the years I can just rekey and no worries about making new keys for everyone that has keys. So the Kwikset Halo is very easy to install. In fairness I already had a deadbolt I was replacing so I did not have to measure and drill new holes for lock to be installed. Here is what I think may be causing some negative reviews, Not following the instructions step by step and/or correctly. They are very detailed and even explain that if you don’t do this step in this order correctly that lock may not work properly. Installation took me about 25 minutes taking my time and double checking every step. Set up of Smart lock feature/ connecting to WiFi, completing firmware update and setting up app/account was about half that time. Once lock was completely installed here is my list of pros and possible cons I found.Pros1. Ease if installation2. Smart feature is via blue tooth through your WiFi so no need for special hub.3. Quality and looks are very nice and keypad is touch screen not buttons4.Several ways to unlock- key, touch pad code, by using app and even using Alexa ( once set up in Alexa app). Great to have all these options if you need to allow people in your house for a temporary reason.5. App allows you to monitor who is coming into house and also if door is locked or unlocked.6. Reasonable cost when compared to other smart locks containing the same features.Possible Cons1. Lock noise when locking and unlocking. A litte louder because of electronic movements.2. LED status light flashes every 5 seconds, (however just found out that this feature can also be turned off I believe)3. Battery cover on inside part of lock is screwed down during installation and requires face plate to be removed to reach battery compartment. ( However once again discovered that if you don’t screw in this cover, you can just slide the cover in place after installation. It holds extremely well. Which allows you to just slide up cover to get to batteries when needed.4. If you are someone that doesn’t like to follow instructions this may lead to problems for you.5. If you have poor WiFi reception near where lock is going to be installed this may effect lock operation.Overall I am super pleased with this lock so far. I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life or durability when it comes to how long lock will last. I know other Kwikset locks come with a lifetime warranty. However this has a one year warranty. Probably because of the electronics integrated in this lock.

I had no issues with installing this lock, and am pleased with its quality and function so far. I was hesitant to buy this because of the many negative reviews with install, battery, and app functionality, but for whatever reason I've not had any of those. At one point after installation the device required a firmware update, and it wanted me to keep my phone nearby during that process. I stood there and held my phone close by throughout it. I wonder if that helped.I have an older version of this device at a rental property which lacks the app functionality, and I hated it. Programming was a hassle. With the app, it's been very easy to add/remove user codes, lock and unlock, and the app notifies me when the door is locked and unlocked. This is great when you have kids in the house.

As usual the people who write directions are coming from a mindset where they work with this item everyday. They don’t realize that there are non tech heads out there that don’t have the skills that the writer has. So here is what I did. I read the directions 3 times with the parts in front of me. I downloaded two videos. One was how to disassemble the lock I had on the Door then I downloaded a video on how to install this lock.. it was super easy. Go slow and recheck every step.After you install there is a step where you check the mechanism. Bad instructions. When checking the lock retraction it doesn’t retract totally into the lock. Only part way. That is a successful check. Directions don’t tell you that.After that download the Kwikset app on your phone Follow directions. The Alexa integration is awesome. Love this lock.The only question I have is when you have to change batteries do you have to go through the whole setup again.

I recently purchased the Kwikset Halo lock as a replacement for an existing door lock. The whole process to install the lock went very quickly and all of the appropriate hardware was nicely labeled with numbers that matched the instructions. All told, from box to locked door was about 30 minutes. The app setup was also very quick, including the firmware update, easily got onto my home WiFi, and I was able to create codes for each person in the house.To create some simple automation, I was able to enable the Kwikset skill in Alexa, specifically to automatically lock the door at a certain time at night. I also was able to pair the lock with Google assistant, but the automation with Alexa does the job. My only gripe is that this product doesn't support Apple HomeKit which is my platform of choice.Also to note that the rekeying of the lock to use my existing key worked perfectly, not something specific to this lock, but good for the Kwikset system in general.Everyone in my house quickly adapted to the new lock, now preferring their codes over using the actual keys. And the lock looks great too!
