This is a very nice thermostat and I almost sent it back because of inadequate instructions. I will simplify the most important points. You will need only 2 apps on your android tablet or smartphone to complete the task. Alexa app & Honeywell Home app. There are others but they require a CRC code. CRC is not available for the T5 or T6 thermostat. Download these in advance. My previous therm was 4 wire. The T5 is a 5 wire if you are missing one it is probably the C (common wire). I found some spare wires behind the therm and choose black. I then went to my furnace terminal board and found the black wire to the therm was not connected. I connected to the C term. It had one other wire already connected to the outside compressor unit. Power up...follow the instructions & select wifi connect. It is the easiest way to go. If your wifi router is compatible it will instantly work. If the wifi symbol on the therm has an X, it is not connected. Follow your smartphone instructions and you will be connected to your Honeywell home app. It first appears that you only have thermosat up & down, but tap at the top of the app and the next page will give you all of the settings. Now you can tend to Alexa. Open the Alexa app and choose skills. At the top of the page type Honeywell Home. It will install and also appear on Smart Home. When the Honeywell app loads it will ask you to enable. Once enabled, at the top right click the settings button. It will then go to a screen which will allow to to click manage. Then you will get the add device screen and when clicked will go to the 20 sec search mode. If you do not get a connection... go to the Honeywell Home app... UN-enable and then enable again. This happened to me! Good luck and don't give up! Once connected, this will be one of your favorite devices. CFred W
I was hesitant to buy the product because of many negative reviews that it didn't work, couldn't get it setup, etc. However, on couple sites, I saw it as one of the best smart thermostats at a decent price and decided to give it a try.Yes, it does require a C wire - if you are not sure what it means, it would help to check with your HVAC guy. Installation guide has also a method without using a C Wire (using Green wire for C Wire purposes), but then you loose the ability to control fan without Furnace/AC, if you want to run the fan only for example...Your furnace board needs to be able to support the C Wire connection regardless. The problem with the newer, more feature rich thermostats is that they need more power than just when the furnace/AC is on + couple AA batteries to keep the wifi connection and bigger/nicer displays, etc. C Wire provides that additional power from the furnace...I had a 4 wire (18-4) running from thermostat to furnace. Since I plan to stay in this house for the long haul and wanted to do it right, I bought the 18-5 thermostat cable (18 gauge each - 5 wires) and ran the new cable from thermostat to the furnace and removed the old cable. Connected to the furnace and to the thermostat all in less than 45 minutes. Turned on the power, followed the instructions to install the honeywell lyric app, connect wifi, setup the daily schedule from the app and furnace turned on within couple of minutes like nothing ever happened. Very happy with the setup and thermostat so far...Update 7 months later - still very happy with the product, buying a 2nd one for my 2nd furnace/ac...
I am so glad I went with this vs the other more expensive smart thermostats that are out there. It’s easy to use, not too difficult to install and soooo convenient. It has almost all the features of the more well-known Ecobee and Nest products but for a lot less money. This may not win awards for aesthetics but let’s face it, it’s a thermostat that probably won’t really even get noticed, so who cares. Plus it looks just fine, really not bad at all. It has geofencing capabilities, programmable energy savings options, nice color, bright backlight (that can be dimmed) and works with Alexa. Great for adjusting the temp in the middle of the night without having to leave your bed. Just pick up your phone and access the app or use Apple Home kit (if your have an iOS device). Really convenient and fairly priced.
So far so good. I installed this on my oil fired burner with forced hot water. The furnace is from '93-'94 with a 2 wire thermostat. Installation was extremely simple. I purchased a 24 volt transformer (the kind that just plugs onto a wall) and plugged it in near the furnace. I ran the 2 wires to where the thermostat is then connected the 2 original red and white wires to the matching terminals and then attached one wire from the transformer to the C terminal and the other to the RC terminal and I was in business. Set up with the app wasn't bad, but could have been better. It took several attempts to connect the thermostat before I got message saying to shut off the mobile data on my phone (4g LTE). I then tried again and it immediately connected. I then downloaded the Alexa skill and it immediately connected. Aside from the minor hiccup with the initial setup, it was quite easy.
Great thermostat. My previous one was old and outdated. Fortunately I had a "C wire" which allowed me to use the Lyric to its full capabilities. The geofencing is great and very useful for me at least. I love the app, it is very user friendly. It is also capable of be using through Apple Home Kit. I basically say "Hey Siri, change the temperature to 72°" and it works flawlessly. Great purchase. I highly recommend it. Oh and the installation was straight forward. Make sure you know what kind of system you have for example: Heat Pump, OBV on cool/heat etc.. If you don't know, call tech support from Lyric, they are very helpful and patient.
