Honeywell TH9320WF5003 Wi-Fi Touch Screen Programmable Thermostat
Really nice, easy to program, the screen is very easy to read. The remote access via WiFi and app is very fast and dependable. In my set up is 2 heat and 1 cool with a heat pump/AC. The two stage heat works very well but you cannot program how you want the AUX or emergency heat to work. The heat pump is 1st stage and the 2nd stage is electric heating elements. A email from Honeywell explained it since I could not find it in any documentation. You can set it for "emergency" heat only and this locks out the heat pump compressor so only the electric elements are being used. The installation instructions were very good for both the wiring and programming. It does have a "Smart Response Technology" option to determine how long it take to get the temperature to the set temp. It also has a "Utility Schedule Options" feature for easier programming for parts of the country that have different rates for electric power at different times of the day. From Honeywell:...When you leave the system in heat mode it runs the heat pump for heating and if the heat pump is not able to satisfy the heating requirement of the house, the thermostat turns on the backup/second stage along with the heat pump to assist in heating the location. At this time the thermostat will show “Auxiliary Heat On’ on the display. The thermostat uses a pre-programmed algorithm to determine when the second stage should turn on....
i read some other reviews where this thing died on them and customer service was painful to deal with bc it wasnt installed by a professional. so i will say, as an initial review, this thermostat is fantastic! installation was very easy, as i am in a newer home. i basically just swapped wires from my old thermostat to the new one. setup was very straightforward as was setting up a new schedule. this unit allows for a daily customized schedule if you need that. i work from home a few days a week, so my heating and cooling needs vary by day, and being able to account for that was awesome. other reasons why i upgraded to a wifi/alexa-capable unit: so that i can change the heating/cooling settings from any wifi device (phone, laptop, etc.) in my house, change settings remotely/away from home, and give voice commands to Alexa to change temp settings from the comfort of my bed (i use an echo spot as my alarm clock).
Bought this for my mother, who had trouble reading her other digital thermostat. She LOVES this. The display is clear, large and easy to read. It's easy to set up and schedule. She also loves that she can use her iPhone to control it. The heat pump is very responsive to the app. Couldn't be more pleased with the product. Not good was the Services installation ordered with it.The installer showed up equipped with not much more than a pocket screwdriver. This thermostat needs a fifth Common wire, which was not on her old thermostat. She did, however, have a few other unused wires behind the old thermostat. The installer said they weren't connected to anything, but didn't really do much more than a cursory glance at the heat pump and determined I had to hire someone else to do it, if it could even be done at all without running new wire down to the thermostat. We hired a tech from an actual HVAC company, to install an Add-A-Wire kit and install the thermostat. He determined the Add-A-Wire wasn't needed—just connect the unused wires up at the heat pump. He was right. Worked like a charm without having to use the kit. Disappointed in the Services for sending someone who was ill-equipped for the job, or rather minimally-qualified to handle anything other than the most basic installation. I had that much expertise, but ordered the service because I thought it might require more than basic knowledge. did not charge for the non-installation, which was good.
Had it up and running for a week. Install was a breeze - had all the necessary wires fortunately. Set up was simple including Wi-Fi and have had no drops yet. Connect to your network and then configure through your PC. Configuring is so easy with a mouse...MUCH better than older non-LCD programmable thermostats due to pre-configured templates for temperature settings for 4 periods of the day. The times and temps are already set for a general weekday schedule and a separate weekend schedule. You just tweak it a bit for your schedule. There is also a separate heat temperature and AC temperature degree setting for each time slot within your schedule. This means you don't have to re-adjust your temps in Summer vs. Winter. For example, you may prefer 71 degrees for you winter months (heat) and 69 for summer (AC). You can add them both at once - also pre-configured. It also switches over to AC from Heat automatically. The stand out feature that no other unit in this price range offers is the fan circulate option. It automatically kicks the fan on 30% of the time when the heat/AC isn't blowing the fan. You'll read all about this in other reviews. The unit is a bit smaller than my old TSTAT, so you may need a larger wall plate to hide paint lines or drywall holes. This cover fits perfectly [Honeywell 50002883-001]:http://www..com/gp/product/B00096JC72/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1
Installed unit and the APP. At day 2 we are impressed with the display and the APP. A concern for me had been the fan programming. Could it be controlled? The answer is an absolute yes, even from the APP (ALEXA can be used to temporarily adjust temp setting, fine with me). There are four periods for each day the fan can be set to “on” or “auto” or “circulate” for each of the four individual periods for each of the seven days. After you set each day, change to the main screen (see photo 7) where the fan must be set to "follow program." If it is set to auto or on or circulate, that will override the daily or period programming. The reprogramming can be done at the thermostat or using the "Total Connect Comfort" Android APP. Before you buy, call up the App Store, find the APP and then find the DEMO. Run the demo and you can see where the fan controls can be selected (although it may jump to a "conference room" for the demo). Works as demonstrated for the HOME option. Until I found the demo, I was quite confused as some people answered yes you can program or “no way.” Honeywell can thank "HeatcoolHOME Seller" for telling me it could be controlled and encouraging me to look further. I had almost bought two competitor units. Honeywell is remiss in not publicizing this DEMO and not having a YouTube to show fully how programming works. Remember, this unit does require the "C-Wire." You cannot steal the fan wire to sub for the C-wire if you want full programming. In my area, most HVAC systems have a high-condensate float trip. Nowhere did I find an internet wiring example that included this. So, Honeywell, I spend a lot of time tracing my wiring to match to your example systems and researching the net it was fully programmable. As your thermostat display is much better than your competitors, you could probably sell more if you did a more thorough job at describing the unit and its functionality.Vacation Program on unit only, not APP. OK with me. I will need to tweak fan settings when using heater instead of A/C.I installed the 9000s to replace Honeywell programmable units that still worked after 25 years, just showing appearance wear. I hope the 9000s last as well. I expect most “tuning” will be done by phone. Luckily, I did have the idle blue wire for the “C” use.Honeywell: Future improvements might include 5-6 periods for tweaking program where multiple residents have different work/school schedules and different temperature tolerances. I would also like to override the period fan “on” setting” based on a high outdoor hygrometer reading; but, oh well, that likely would be a maintenance/reliability headache. You might also consider a manual “off” toggle which we would use to power down during storm related power “flickers”5 stars for HeatcoolHOME Seller.
